Life Lesson Revisited
by: TMFC
I recently revisited a small lesson from life that I wanted to share. I say revisited rather than learned, because I actually learned the lesson long ago. But it's the sort of lesson that will present itself again and again if we let our guard down.
At the time I'm writing this article it's November, an incredibly busy month, in every sense of the word. On top of the regular holiday planning and shopping, our home business has been demanding a great deal of my time. We've also had lots of unexpected things come up that has had us on the run to and from and from and to.
It just seems that I've been on the go constantly since Halloween - not just my body, but my mind as well. Sometimes a busy mind isn't all it's cracked up to be. When there's excessive activity, we tend to overlook or ignore things that creep up on us. I know it's painfully true of me.
Because of all the busy-ness, I was sort of ignoring the way my Dodge Caravan was behaving. I knew it wasn't itself, so to speak, but I was simply too busy to look into it. Perhaps with everything going on, a part of my brain just thought, "Not something else! Maybe if I ignore it....." Unfortunately the ignoring it led to major work. Quite a bit of it! So much that I was afraid it was on its way to becomming the Dodge that stole Christmas.
How many times in life do we do this sort of thing? Then we suffer the consequences, only to turn around and do it again. It's one of those things in human nature that need an overhaul like my vehicle.
I just wonder how many catastrophes could be averted if we caught them early enough. Apparently if I had taken my beloved Caravan right away, the work would have been much quicker and much, much, much less expensive. Kind of makes me sick. But it also makes me determined to be more watchful in the future. To pay more attention to details around me and to never let something get any worse.
Given the choice, I'd rather over-react than under-react - but the most important thing is to simply act.
