Something to Think About

by Joi on September 6, 2006

“I find it interresting that the meanest life, the poorest existence, is attributed to God’s will, but as human beings become more affluent, as their living standard and style begin to ascend the material scale, God descends the scale of responsibility at commensurate speed.” -Maya Angelou

I was working on a few posts about Maya Angelou for Self Help Daily when I came across the quote above.

Cuts right to the heart, doesn’t it?!?! How many times do we hear people angrily demand, “How could God allow this?!” Yet we rarely ever hear the same people verbally pat Him on the back or credit Him for the beautiful things in the world, or for the miracles that take place every minute of the day.

It reminds me of when God delivered the Hebrews from bondage (No, dear daughters, your mother wasn’t there - I’ve READ about it.), they were satifsied with Him for a little while UNTIL they got hungry. Then they were outraged! He fed them, and again they were content for a while. Then they got hungry again - and again they lashed out! We think about the Hebrews and kind of shake our heads in amazement….and, yet —-

Make each prayer count double - especially the prayers of gratitude,
