I really don’t know if it was done nationally, or not, but in Owensboro (KY) they were recognizing “Senior Day” today. When my youngest daughter and I went to the mall this morning we thought we’d been transported to a retirement community.
What an incredibly sweet and wonderful sight it was – all the elderly gents and ladies out enjoying the beautiful day. They were pretty slicked up, too, I might add. Inside the mall, there was a Roy Orbison lookalike singing as they sort of bobbed their heads along and tapped their toes. They were all smiling and laughing, having the time of their lives. Several venders were giving out ice cream, coffee, cookies, etc. One little lady I fell in love with was squirrelling away the cookies in her bag. She tilted her head and took a long look at her coffee and for a moment I thought it was going into the bag, too.
I love that there’s a day put aside for those in the Seniors class! They deserve more of them. It’s the sort of thing we should all do, show respect and recognition to those who are living in our future.
I do have to admit, though, driving around the city was kind of frightening. All the eratic lane switching, speeding up/slowing down, sight-seeing, and talking instead of watching the road. Well….at least I didn’t hit anyone.
