We all want physical fitness, and will pay just amount any amount of money and spend just about any amount of time to achieve it. We want to look our best, feel our best, and by all means, live as long as we possibly can.
To make all of this happen, we try to eat right, try to get as much fresh air and sunshine as possible, take our vitamins, and work our bodies as much as our bodies are willing to work.
The media keeps us well informed on the benefits of exercise, green tea, white tea, vitamins and herbs, walking….. But only recently has there been much focus on the importance of mental fitness. Yet, think about it – few things are as important as keeping our brains healthy and well-functioning.
The most important thing we can do for our bodies, physically, is to stay active. If we don’t stay physically active, our muscles will deteriorate and we’ll not only fail to get stronger, we’ll lose what strength and fitness we have. The same thing can be said of our mental fitness – it’s imperative that we stay mentally active.
One of the easiest ways we can do this is to daily challenge ourselves with puzzles and mental exercises. In the way that lifting weights gives us anyone who does it a good physical workout, challenging the mind on a regular basis keeps it sharp and programs it to function at a higher level.
I don’t know about you, but I’m all for that!
Cognitive Fitness (keeping our brains stimulated, active, and functioning well) is the key element to mental fitness, for now and for years to come. I’ve been planning a lot of articles, mental quizzes, puzzles and mental exercises for TMFC (The Mental Fitness Center) and for its blog (Here!). You’ll be seeing more of these very things right away. I’ve actually even put up a sibling blog: The Mental Spark Plug. It’s still in its infancy, so there isn’t much content, yet. It will be a one-stop resource for self education, homeschooling, cognitive fitness, online degree information – basically anything in the way of working, challenging, and strengthening the mind, The Mental Spark Plug hopes to encourage….even, nudge…its visitors along.
That’s why the posts on this blog have been sort of few and far between lately – I’ve been nursing a new one! Okay, that was weird even for me. Anyway, I’m on a Cognitive Fitness Crusade and I hope you and your brain cells will come along!
Watch for a lot more on this blog as well as The Mental Spark Plug. I’ve been gorging myself on brain games, brain facts, and mental fitness, so I have a lot of material to throw on your screen. By the way, did you know that your brain is capable of having more ideas than the number of atoms in the known universe?! Furthermore, the number of internal thought pathways that your brain is capable of producing is: One followed by 10.5 million kilometers of standard typewritten zero’s!
Make each moment count double,
~Joi

Does anyone recommend a good body fat scale that is accurate? I saw a post on thedailyskinny.com that was comparing body fat scales to calipers and it said they weren’t as accurate… is that true?
