It Is What It Is

by Joi on June 14, 2006

I have to ‘fess up. I follow Hollywood stories and gossip. I follow them like my cat would follow a mouse with catnip in his pocket. I’ll read about their antics, do the whole shaking of the head with an accompanying tsk tsk thing…. Frankly, Britney and K-Fed are wearing my tsks out.

So, there I sat this morning reading up on the whole Denise, Heather, Richie, Charlie scenario. I’m sure you know the whole spiel, so I’ll spare you the details. Denise gave an interview recently and was very cavalier, insolent, and nonchalant about the whole mess - you could hear the shoulder shrug in her words.

Her summation? It is what it is.

It struck me that that very phrase is at the root of a lot of our problems as a society. That’s why really bad habits never get broken, relationships crumble, and lives spin out of control - no one wants to step up and accept responsibility for anything, no one wants to fight the good fight anymore.

Much easier to just shrug the shoulder and give it a “It is what it is.”

Make each moment count double,
