How to Keep a Cold From Leading to a Sinus Infection

Sometimes, even though you’ve tried to take every precaution, you end up with a cold anyway. A cold is nasty all by itself, but occasionally it goes all out and matures into sinusitis. Miserable Mess, that.

There are a few things you can do to keep that from happening, though.

Take decongestants. But avoid antihistamines, which could thicken mucus. If the mucus thickens, it’ll think that it’s being invited to stick around.

Use a humidifier or a steamy bath or shower to help keep things loose and free-flowing.

Use a plain saline nasal spray several times a day. It removes stubborn mucus that might, otherwise, cause a bacteria nightmare.
