I just read something scary – 1 in 3 Americans knows someone with Alzheimer’s Disease, and 1 in 10 has a family member affected by the condition.
No wonder more and more doctors are coming out with advice on Alzheimer’s prevention. Hopefully, in time this tragically sad disease can be eliminated. Until then, there are changes we can make in our lives to lessen our chances of ever falling prey to this particular beast.
From the same magazine I read the scary statistics: “Toxins are a possible risk factor, so it’s practical to avoid the worst sources. Doing that and getting the right nutrition can significantly lower your risk.”
Below are the top three toxin sources the doctor listed for us to avoid:
- Soda in cans. Soda is acidic and may be in cans for months before you buy it let alone drink it. Aluminum leaches from the can into the liquid, and then you got it, into our bodies. Avoid all foods that come packaged in aluminum – for the same reason.
- Mercury in amalgam fillings and vaccines. The article said that we should ask our dentist for “nonamalgam” filling materials and when getting a vaccine, we should ask for one without the mercury-based preservative thimerosal.
- Pesticides in food. Whenever possible, we should opt for organic foods. Otherwise, all produce should be washed as thouroughly as possible.
Finally, the doctor recommended teh following in way of nutritional defense – 1. A good, high-quality multivitamin/mineral supplement. 2. Omega-3 fatty acids (1 gm daily of a combination of EPA and DHA, which usually requires taking 3 gm of fish oil.) and, 3. MSM – it helps your body get rid of toxins.
All of the information came courtesy of our recent edition of GNC’s “Let’s Live”. The doctor in question is Paula Baillie-Hamilton, M.D., P.H.D. She also is the author of “Toxin Overload.” I’m trying to find a link to a copy online, not only would I like to link it from a post, I’d like to buy a copy for my family.
