Hard Truth about Relationships
While journeying east and west -
The only folks we really wound
Are those we love the best.
We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.
~Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Unfortunately, there’s a great deal of truth in the lines above. None of us are exempt. We all, at times, bite off a loved one’s head or sling a little unpleasantness on them that we wouldn’t even DREAM of slinging at a complete stranger.
Whether it’s a case of letting our guard down or taking out our frustrations on those who are closest to us, we’d all do well to start thinking before we open our mouths. We should ask ourselves, “Would I say that to a co-worker or stranger? Would I actthis way in public?”
Instead of saving our best for complete strangers, we should save it for those who mean the world to us. It seems so obvious, but we all know that sometimes it isn’t.
Just something to think about.
Make each kindness count double,
~Joi
