About Joi

I can give the basics and even a few little extras, but the best way to get to know about me is to get to know me. So IM me (joisigers) or e-mail me (joisigers @ aim.com). That way, I get to know you too!

My name is Joi (pronounced Joy). People see my name and wonder if I’m from “an exotic race” - the answer’s no, unless being a Kentuckian counts. Born in Kentucky, raised in Kentucky, live in Kentucky - as the Montgomery Gentry song says, here is “where I keep all my yesterdays.” My todays are also here, and my tomorrows see no reason to go anywhere else.

I tend to ramble, so I thought the easiest way to do this would be to do a “The ABC’s of Me” type of About Page. It (might) keep me on track and (may) keep me from chasing minute little thoughts all around the page. Check it out - I’m rambling about rambling. (You officially just got to know the real me.)

A. Artichoke-Spinach Dip. I make the best on earth - and I’m actually pretty cocky about it.

Andy Griffith - not too many things I’d rather do than kick back on the couch and watch Andy Griffith Reruns (only the b&w ones, though)

B. Bracelets - I’m positively over-the-top with my bracelets. I LOVE jewelery of all kinds, but I have a real thing for bracelets. My collection is in the hundreds and grows daily. I never wear less than four at a time - two to an arm, I even stopped wearing a watch so I could wear more bangles and bracelets. If I move one of my arms and don’t hear any clanking or clinking, I know I don’t have enough on.

The Bible - The best book ever written.

C. Causes: Alzheimer’s, Animal Protection, Ocean Conservation, Diabetes, Breast Cancer, and thePujols Foundation

Cardinals. The St. Louis Cardinals are my fave baseball team. Love them muchly - even the bullpen.

Chai tea and coffee - they’re why I understand and sympathize with anyone facing any sort of addiction. By the way, if you’re a Chai tea lover, too, you have to find a reason to make it to Owensboro, Kentucky. Beyond the Brim has the BEST Chai tea in the world. I don’t know what secrets they’re sitting on that no one else is privy to, but they’re all over it.

Cats - Our cats (Prissy, Bo, Adam, Alexa, and Sven) light up my world like the fourth of July.

Cookbooks - I collect them. I literally have too many to count - it’d take a whole room and half a day to spread them out and count them. I love to cook and am never happier than I am when I’m in the kitchen cooking as the St. Loius Cardinals or the UK Wildcats are on the kitchen tv, hopefully winning.

Candles - LOVE candles - the fragrant ones.

D. Dean Koontz. If I could only read one author for the rest of my life, (In addition to the Bible.) it’d be Koontz. He’s just on another level….and possibly from another world. If you’ve never read him, go out and grab “Odd Thomas,” “Watchers,” “Midnight,” “Sole Survivor…” Oh, heck, if it has Dean Koontz on the cover - grab it. (Disclaimer: If you’re easily offended, creeped out, or scared….disregard the grabbing.)

Denver Broncos - my favorite NFL team.

Dreamologist - I’m one. I don’t believe that dreams are prophetic, but I do believe know that they can give us insights into our lives - what we’re feeling, thinking, and so on. Dreamology is a fascinating science and will, I think, one day be more widely used and utilized.

E. Eighties Rock - nothing like it, you know.

F. Family. I cherish mine more than my next breath.

Food Network - If Paula, Rachael, Alton, Emeril, or the Iron Chefs are on - I’m pretty close by. I’m not sure where Jamie Oliver went, but I wish he’d come back…..miss him and his thick, thick accent.

G. Gwen Stefani - one of my favorite singers ever. There are some artists I could listen to 24/7 - she’s one of them - along with Beyonce, Lenny Kravitz, KISS, Bon Jovi, Janet Jackson, Bo Bice, Nelly, Justin T, Chris Daughtry, Christina Aguilera, Constantine Maroulis, Prince, Shania, Ashlee and Jessica - is that a wild group or what?

Garfield - favorite comic strip

Gladiola - favorite flower

H. Heaven - it was made all the sweeter earlier this year when my mother suddenly passed away. Ironically she had told me on the phone the night before, “When Spring gets here, I’m finding a bigger house.” I told her, “Well, if that’s what you want, I’ll help you find one.” She couldn’t wait for the spring and she didn’t need my help.

Harriet Tubman - my own personal (non Biblical, non-family) HERo.

Home - I work from home as a web designer, writer, web publisher, and graphic artist. I have 14 blogs and over 20 websites. Yet, at heart, my knee-jerk reaction to “What do you do?” is, “I’m a wife and mother.” That’s where my heart is. Even if I’m working online, my heart is in the kitchen fixing a huge Kentucky-style supper with fried chicken, mashed potatoes, yeast rolls and pecan pie. Maybe that’s why my family always urges me to “follow my heart!”

History - I love American History - especially the Colonial Days and the Civil War Era.

I. Ice Cream - my favorites are Butter Pecan, chocolate chip, and vanilla.

J. Johnny Depp - favorite movie actor. (Also: Denzel Washington, Tommy Lee Jones, Orlando, Joaquin Phoenix, and Bruce Willis)

Jeremiah 33:3 - My favorite Biblical verse.

K. Keira Knightley - favorite movie actress. (Also: Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder, and Reese Witherspoon)

Kelly Monaco and Kassie DePaiva - two of my favorite television actresses.

L. - Lost - love that show!

M. Mancino’s Pizza and Grinders on H-way 54 in Owensboro - the best taco pizza you’ll ever find. I’m hooked. SO GOOD! Their grinders are amazing, too….I’m slowly but surely working my way through each of them. Problem is, I go in with every intention of trying something new, but my mind starts screaming TACO PIZZA! It’s that good.

They’ve recently started serving Spaghetti, too, so I’ll go in one day next week and intend to have some.

Music - I like artists and songs from all genres - if the music’s good, I don’t care what name it goes by.

N. Normal - normal people make me nervous and suspicious.

O. Oprah - if she ran for president, I’d support her all the way. I respect and trust her that much - which is more than I can say for most politicians.

Old Movies - I love them muchly. Lucille Ball, James Dean, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, and Ava Gardner are some of my favorites.

P. Poetry - my favorite poets are both named Emily. The one you have heard of is Emily Dickinson. The one you will hear of is my daughter Emily.

Q. Queen Latifah - one of the most amazing voices ever given to a human.

R. Ring the Alarm - as in the video by Beyonce. It’s better than a lot of movies I’ve seen. It’s straight up hot, and she gives (in my opinion) the best performance ever in a video.

S. Speeding tickets - I’ve gotten two/deserved hundreds. I drive too fast, play the radio too loud, and seat dance way too much.

Save the World Complex? Check! I very much want to and am foolish enough to believe I can. If given enough chocolate, Taco Pizza and Chai tea.

T. Tiger Woods - my favorite male golfer.

U. University of Kentucky Wildcats!!! During basketball season - if the Cats are on, approach our house with caution. We get pretty wild. Objects fly, people stand on furniture, curses are cast upon referees, Hoosiers, and Billy Packer. Not. In. That. Order.

V. Vanilla - favorite milkshake.

W. Wednesday - our dog, who happens to be the sweetest little dog on earth.

Web Design - my family runs a Web Design/Hosting and Graphic Art biz - Hightide-Web Design. We taught ourselves web design AND graphic art and now have over 20 websites and blogs. A person can learn and do anything they set their mind to - most of the time we’re the only things really standing in our way.

X. Malcolm X, the movie, left me thinking and feeling for weeks. I’m still waiting for the next movie to pull that one off.

Y. Yesterdays - I think about yesterdays too much. That’s about as logical as driving while looking out the back window.

Z. Zebras - I’d like to ride one. Not really, but I needed a Z.

This page is forever changing because I’m forever changing.

On an earlier ABOUT page, I had written, “I’m trying to find a pic to use, but I’m usually acting up in pics like a 2 year old! Besides, I never look like I do in pics - Thanks. Be. To. God.” I don’t know what it is about me and cameras - we have a terrible relationship. I’m not sure why we hate one another so badly, but it’s a mutual thing. I run from them and start scandalous rumors about them/they add 10 pounds to my hips, and…well, that’s all they do, but that’s enough. - So my youngest daughter, Stephany, made it her mission to snap random pics of me throughout the day, thinking that if I wasn’t aware there was a camera around, I’d behave and not act like a dweeb, idiot, fool, or even moron.

These are two that she took while on that mission. Believe it or not, I actually do more things than just my hair.

Incidentally, I’m on my knees in each, so am actually taller than two feet - about three feet taller, but taller nonetheless.

I actually found this by accident but found it strange. If you are going to comment on how great the Bible is then are you accepting as written? That every word is absolute? Can’t agree with some and leave some out. Because it is God’s word and some of other things you speak of are definately not Godly. Like some of the music, dreamology and Oprah. Oprah preaches tolerance and acceptance. God says love and forgiveness. Oprah doesn’t care what evil they do in their personal life. We are not to tolorate sinful behavior. Love the sinner hate the sin. I don’t care how many times she says the word God, she is not ok in my book. Pick your side of the fence.

You sound like an interesting and very nice person. Thank you for inspiring me to pick up the Bible again and check your reference to Jer. 33:3. It is beautiful and reassuring.
Have a blessed and secure and happy weekend
